Street Rod 2 Developer: Logical Design Works Publisher: California Dreams Year: 1990 Rating: 9/10 Review: Both of the Street Rod games have a very original idea - you have about two months time to build a good car and challenge "The King". If you fail to win The King you will lose. When starting a new game in Street Rod 2 all you have is a garage and some cash. So the first thing you have to do is to buy a car from the newspaper which lies on your garage's floor. When you have bought a sucky car, it will be transfered to your garage - now you can tune your engine, chop off bumbers and roof, buy new parts, repaint your car and etc. When you think your car is good enough, you can hit the road - this means that you drive your car to the fast food restaurant and wait for other drives who you can challenge. There are three different races you can drive, you also have to choose your bet - you can race just for free or then for your money or car (pink slips). On Wednesday you can take part in a special competition - you have to win a couple of races, but you also have to drive a better time in each race. That's why you have to plan your race.
After you have won couple of cars you can sell them and buy better cars and parts. I liked to buy a bit suckier car and
then buy the most expensive engine and parts on it. The good thing is that all the cars in Street Rod 2 are real. The graphics are pretty good, the sounds are, well, typical PC-speakers sounds. The game doesn't support any sound cards. The game is mainly mouse-based but when driving you use keyboard or joystick. However, controlling your car with the keyboard is a bit sucky. Street Rod 2 is overall a really good game, however it's prequel is almost the same. Street Rod 2 contains only a few new things, for example new cars and tracks, but the basic idea is exactly the same.
