When starting a new game, you first have to select one from the thirteen races that the game has. All races have their own special "skills" like diplomacy or fast technology researching for example.
If you choose harder difficulty level at the beginning, the game allows you to create a custom race. This means that the game will give you points and by using these points you can select the strengths and the weaknesses of your race.
When race selection is done, the game will begin. You will see the star map - it allows you to move your starcraft groups, colonize new planets and expand your empire. The battles are fought in a smaller star map, the battles are round based.
Here's a little tip for beginners: don't build big starcrafts too early, having lots of smalls starfighters is a better tactic at the beginning. Avoid also planet Orion's alien guardian before you have enough starcrafts to face alien's great firepower.
Master of Orion has plenty of technlogy to research and its importance is great, for example a planet without a shield generator and a good defense system is a easy target to defeat.

The technical part of the game is also great - graphics were great when the game was released and can be compared to today's shareware strategy games. The sound effects are suitable, the game doesn't contain any music but in my opinion a strategy game like this doesn't need music at all.

Overall Master of Orion is a legendary strategy game and one of the best space strategies. Get it now and conquer the galaxy.
