Review: Well, with this review I've decided to kick in with some history I found at Al Lowe's site: Al Lowe Humor Site . According to Al Lowe it all started in 1981. A programmer called Chuck Benton wanted to experiment with his Apple to see what it could do. So as a test he made a little text adventure called Softporn Adventure. He showed the game to alot of people and everybody liked it alot. Since it was so popular he decided to show it to the biggest publisher of Apple Games to see if they were interested and they were. And that was Sierra's (in those days called On-Line Systems) first and only game with no graphics. Soft Porn adventure became pretty popular and sold lots of copy's. After a while Sierra had the chance to aqcuire the rights for all the disney characters but only if they dropped "that dirty game" and so they did. A while later in 1986 Al Lowe and Ken Williams talked about the fact that there wern't any real adult games on the market. The talked about it a while and of course "Softporn Adventure" came up. Ken Williams suggested to Al Lowe that he should do a new version of it with new modern day graphics and music. Al Lowe hadn't played Softporn Adventure in a while so he took a copy of it back home so he could decide what to do. Back home he saw that the game was really out of date. He didn't any real plot. It was just about scoring three women in one night. Al Lowe reported back to Ken saying that he couldn't make anything of it unless he were allowed to make a few changes and to make some fun of the main character. And so Larry was born. Back in those days there wern't any real graphics tools available so Sierra made their own tools. There wern't alot of programmers available to work on Larry. Most were busy working on other projects. But they found one who could a few hours every day to work on Larry. Yay. ;) And so (leaving out a few details) Leisure Suit Larry was born. Now, enough history and on to the game. :)
The object of the game woud be to help Larry Laffer on that most noble of all quests; the quest for true love. Through the whole game you'll have to do all sorts of weird things (like in all the Sierra adventures) to help Larry find his true love. It all starts at the now famous "Lefty's" in the city of "Lost Wages". Here you'll get the first set of puzzles but I won't give away anything about that. At one time you'll come into a casino where you'll need to play poker to earn money. This game was later made into a seperate game that was sold. Through the whole game you'll encounter many of the fun jokes Al Low devised. The backgrounds and surroundings make it a relaxt game to play. As in all Sierra adventures the puzzles arn't that tough. They just require some thinking of the player. What I've always found fun about the Larry games is the questions you get at the beginning. Its to check your age but I don't really find Leisure Suit Larry that an hardcore adult game. Its all about good and slightly dirty fun. ;) Larry is always made fun of in the game. He's not the words most atractive male. And thats what Al Lowe intended because just copying Softporn Adventure wouldn't have been good enough.
So it all comes down to a great game. It will always have a place in gaming history. There arn't really any games like it any more. Since Sierra fired Al Lowe there probably won't be any more Larry games. :/ So if havn't played it before then try to get a copy and play it. You won't regret it. :)
