Review: Budokan is a good looking and original beat 'em up game made in 1989. What makes Budokan original is that the game contains four different martial arts and the idea is to win the martial arts -tournament called Budokan. In this tournament, the competitors using different martial arts can challenge each others, for example a karateka can fight against a nunchaku master. But the human player can use each martial art only four times in the tournament. So you have to know how to fight with all of them if you want to win the tournament.
Like I said before, there are four different martial arts in this game: Karate, Bo, Kendo and Nunchaku. Karate is the most well-known and as you probably know, it's unarmed fighting. In Kendo you beat your enemies with long sticks and Bo is staff combat. Nunchaku is pretty cool in my opinion: you fight with two sticks which are linked with a chain. And yes, one of the Turtles has nunchakus.

Before the tournament you need a good practice in each of the martial arts - the game allows you to practice each martial art without an enemy opponent or against computer-controlled fighter. I recommend that you first learn the basic movements before fighting against computer. Also, be sure that you choose the easiest difficulty level when you play the game for the first time. At least I found this game quite challenging.

Budokan's graphics are pretty good for a game made in 1989. Sounds didn't work on my computer so I can't say anything about them. Control are working fine.

Personally I'm not that much into beat 'em up -games, but I must say that I really liked Budokan. In my opinion, only Double Dragons are better beat 'em ups than Budokan, and when comparing to other martial art -games, Budokan is the best.
