Abuse Developer: Crack Dot Com Publisher: Crack Dot Com Year: 1995 Rating: 9/10 Review: First some background info about Abuse. Abuse has been available in various shareware collections since it was released in 1995, and it was famed for its new ideas. However, the full version never sold very well. The company behind Abuse, Crack dot Com, was Dave Taylor's (a man behind Quake's sounds) own project. Their other games never came out and the company had to close its door in 1998.
Abuse's plot is a usual shoot 'em up -plot: You're a tough guy called Nick Vrenna and your task is to prevent that world is not taken-over by genetically modified ants. And as you can guess, this problem cannot be solved diplomatically.
At the beginning Abuse might seem like just an ordinary platform game, but after a couple of minutes of playing, you'll probably find it much better than normal platform games. The main reasons for this are the control system and the good atmosphere. The game's difficulty level is first easy but it gets harder pretty fast, and I had to do lots of saving and loading before I managed to finish the game. In a nutshell, Abuse offers you big guns, nice graphics, an unique control system, a good level design, lots of baddies and a creepy atmosphere - it's pretty much like Doom in 2D.
